Cardiff Young Carers service supports children age 17 and under who provide a caring role to either a parent, sibling or grandparent who has an illness, disability or is struggling with addiction to substances or alcohol.
The Young Carers service provide support these young people with a provision of support and services. This includes emotional wellbeing support, community activities, school drop-in session and life skills. The provision is delivered in large group, small group and 1:1 session.
What we’re looking for:
Cardiff Young Carers Service are looking for a small number of Volunteers who are passionate about working with children and have some experience and knowledge in this field.
The volunteer role will be to offer support and assistance at group activities and sessions and to build a positive relationship with the Young Carers and sometimes their families.
The aim of the volunteering role is to support Young Carers to achieve outcomes which are meaningful to them and help improve their confidence, self-esteem and social skills. The Volunteer will help motivate young carers to join in with group activities and sessions and to support new friendships.

Special Requirements
• Enhanced DBS
• 2 references. 1 Academic or Employer and 1 character reference.
• Some experience of working with children.
• Disclosure of any children’s services involvement with their own family.
Outline of the role (include duties and responsibilities
• Preparing and serving snacks
• Running an activity such as a game or craft session (within a bigger group session)
• Chatting and listening to children.
• Chaperoning with transport and another member of staff.
Training we will provide
Level 1 safeguarding training.
Level 1 Food & Hygiene.
Level 1 First Aid.
What we can do for you
Experience of working with children and vulnerable families.
We can provide a reference after 10 sessions completed.
Accessibility statement All the venues we currently use are Wheelchair friendly and accessible. There is no onsite parking at any of the current youth clubs and staff park in the residential streets around the buildings.
