Volunteering with the Community Park Ranger Team
The Community Park Ranger team are based at the Forest Farm Conservation Centre in Whitchurch. We work with a wide variety of people, including family and community groups, schools and other organisations, to deliver conservation, education and events throughout Cardiff’s parks and green spaces. We offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities including:
Conservation volunteers to help carry out a variety of conservation tasks in the parks and green spaces, such as coppicing, hay rakes, gardening, planting and path maintenance.
Education Team volunteers who assist the Community Park Rangers with educational visits to parks such as Forest Farm and Cardiff Bay. Educational activities include pond dipping, mini beast hunts, orienteering, habitats, geography and sustainable development. Volunteers are needed on a flexible basis when we have school bookings.
Event Team volunteers who assist the Community Park Rangers in delivering family events throughout Cardiff’s parks, such as bird walks, wildlife festival, rainforest experience, carol concerts and Christmas events. Volunteers are needed on a flexible basis, especially weekends, when we have events and guided walks.
There are lots of benefits to volunteering with us, such as learning new skills, working in the outdoors, meeting new people and improved physical and mental well-being.
There are also 20+ Friends of groups working alongside the rangers in parks throughout the city. Each park Friends groups has a website with contact information and they advertise their events in noticeboards around the park they are volunteering in.
