The Swap Shop is a place for people to bring their unwanted clothes and swap them for clothes they can use. This helps us keep clothes in use for longer, which is better for the planet and for people’s budgets.
Day and time: The first Saturday of the month 11am to 2pm (volunteer needed 10.30 – 2.30)
Location : Cardiff Central Library, They Hayes, Cardiff, CF10 1FL
Person to contact : Gemma.Coleman2@cardiff.gov.uk
What we need the volunteer to do:
- Set up and pack down the Swap Shop.
- Explain how the Swap Shop works. Many people may not have come to a Swap Shop before so volunteers will need to explain what people can swap their items for and how it works.
- Check that items are suitable and suitably labelled. Volunteers will need to check clothes to be swapped are in good enough condition. Small repairs may need to be labelled first e.g. missing buttons
- Politely refuse unsuitable items
Special requirements:
- You must be 18 or over.
- Able to volunteer on a predictable schedule (a monthly commitment is ideal but it’s more important that we can plan around your availability)
- We will ask for 2 references before you start volunteering with us (again, please chat to us if you have any concerns)
- All languages welcomed however your spoken English needs to allow you to explain the Swap Shop to attendees, answer adhoc queries and requests and communicate with hub staff as needed.
- We’re not able to provide certificates of sponsorship or support people to relocate so this vacancy is for people already living in or near Cardiff.
