About The Huggard Homeless Centre Project:
The Huggard Homeless Centre project is a befriending and support project for adults in Cardiff who are homeless. The project takes place within the Huggard Centre, which is located behind Cardiff Central train station. The Huggard is an open door drop-in centre and hostel which is part of a brand new homeless services development and operates in an area with few other opportunities or facilities.
A group of volunteers on the project will visit the centre for a few hours a week to socialise with the service users, engaging them in activities such as arts and crafts, bingo, baking and cooking (which is a favourite!) and board games.
This project appeals to people that want to work as part of a team, with fellow volunteers and service users alike.
At times this can be a challenging environment as service users will not always want to engage in the activities, therefore confidence, a thick skin and enthusiasm is needed!
About Student Volunteering Cardiff (SVC):
We are an independent, student-led charity based in Cardiff, established in 1970. Our volunteering projects give Cardiff residents (students and community members alike) the chance to give a little to their community. Volunteers work with the homeless, children and young people, those with disabilities and even the environment so you can be sure we have something for everyone!
