We are a charity (Cathays & Central Youth & Community Project) based at Cathays Community Centre in Cardiff. We are running a project for 18-24 year olds in Cardiff who are unemployed, in order to increase their employability and engagement, through volunteering and accreditation, based at our community centre.
Volunteers will be able to gain valuable and wide ranging experience through five different departments within our centre – Office, Café, Social Media, Building / Maintenance & Youth Clubs, as well as gain a Work Related Education Level 2 qualification. They will be supported by the Volunteer Manager, who they will work with to identify opportunities, track progression, set targets, and access any other support that they may need or have identified. They will also be supported by a specialist mentor from each department.
The tasks are department related:
Café – Taking orders and serving customers; experience of working in a busy service environment; cleaning down after closure.
Youth Club – Setting up games and monitoring youth members as part of general activities, inclusive and mainstream.
Office – Dealing with customer enquiries via face to face, email and telephone communication; taking centre bookings; taking and processing payments.
Social Media – Promoting the centre and its activities via Facebook and Twitter; designing material and content to help extend the centre’s reach within the community.
Building / Maintenance – General DIY tasks as and when required; painting; upkeep of the front garden.
We understand that everyone is different, has different skills sets and different levels of experience – we tailor the volunteer placements to individual needs – we want participants to improve their on the job skills and increase their workplace experience.
