Do you want to be a role model to a child or children, make positive changes to their behaviour, and have fun along the way? Then become a Cardiff Women’s Aid Mentor!
We provide 1:1 mentor support for children aged 5-11 years old, and who all have experiences of domestic abuse. The aim of the support programme is to Change the way children view themselves and others and help them find safe ways to express how they feel. This can be achieved in many ways, from playing football in a park, to learning how to sew, activities that you feel would engage the child.
As part of this role, you will be matched with a child based on similarities in both your interests, skills, and support needs of the child. You will work with this child for 1 year, meeting with them for 2-4 hours, once a week.
You will be supported through this role by your programme coordinator who will ensure that they support you and assist you with any needs through the year. You will also have monthly supervision with this individual to address any issues you have, and feedback on the work you are doing with the child.
At Cardiff Women’s Aid, you will be provided with a £30 monthly allowance to cover the cost of activities. This does not include travel expenses, but you will be reimbursed any travel expenses.
Cardiff Women’s Aid is based in Adamsdown, Cardiff. However, we will be providing support to children and families across the whole of Cardiff and Merthyr Tydfil.
