Bute Park Volunteering Opportunities
Bute Park is an extensive area of mature parkland within Cardiff’s city centre boasting a nationally-significant tree collection, numerous natural play features for the young (or young-at-heart), an education centre, three cafes, and a wealth of horticulture and wildlife interest. The Education Officer works with a wide variety of people, including family and community groups, schools and other organisations. We offer a range unique volunteering opportunities including:
Front of house volunteers who meet and greet visitors to the centre, give out Bute Park maps and trails and assist with the day to day running of the centre. Volunteers are needed daily when the education centre is open 12 noon to 3.00pm.
Education Team volunteers who assist the Education Officer with educational visits and family events at the Education Centre and in the park, activities include mini beast hunts, orienteering and outdoor learning sessions for home educating families. Volunteers are needed on a flexible basis when we have school bookings and events.
Conservation volunteers to work with the Bute Park Ranger on a variety of conservation tasks in the park such as hay raking, clearing brash, coppicing, surveying and path work. Conservation sessions are run on the last Sunday of the month 11am to 2.00pm.
Other opportunities include gardening in the park and volunteering in the plant nursery.
