|The Attic The Attic Project, a declutter and reminiscence initiative, is funded by the National Lottery Community fund and is a partnership project between Safer Wales and Care & Repair. We support vulnerable people over the age of 50 to declutter, to make space for adaptations and repairs and to live safely and independently at home. We are looking for volunteers to get involved.
Sorting through long-accumulated items and deciding what to do with them can be overwhelming. Still, many items hold meaningful memories and are gateways to fascinating stories which we can listen to and capture for people in a variety of ways.
We provide up to date training and ongoing support. We are recruiting for the following volunteer roles in Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan and Newport:
Community Outreach Volunteer: to help publicise and promote the Attic Project at community events and venues; to engage with public and help recruit new Attic Volunteers.
Attic Volunteer: to work with vulnerable people over the age of 50 to help them organise and sort through possessions, while sharing memories and stories through objects. You will be trained and supported to:
· assist homeowners to declutter through reorganising spaces, recycling, discarding and donating items to other charitable causes
· collect and record memories through audio, film and other creative means.
Most volunteers work with clients on a one to one basis but there may be opportunities to buddy up with another volunteer.
Audio Editing Volunteer: To will organise and edit digitally recorded stories, conversations and other material collected by volunteers and staff across the project. We will provide training and support together with the team at Radio Cardiff. This role is a great opportunity to gain new digital and technical skills, or develop existing skills, in a community radio environment.
