| | | Millennium Volunteers is a
UK-wide Government-backed initiative to encourage young people (aged 16 – 24) to
volunteer. The purpose of the programme is to promote, encourage and recognise
young people’s sustained commitment to well-organised and challenging
volunteering projects. There are three levels:
- 50 hours
(Certificate)
- 100 hours
(Certificate)
- 200 hours (Award of
Excellence signed by the First Minister, plus an MV T-Shirt or beanie
hat)
Millennium Volunteers is recognised by many large employers
and gives young people a way of formally counting their voluntary work on their
CV or UCAS form. To hear what employers & colleges think about MV open the
'What do employers think?' document in the Millennium Volunteers section of the
WCVA website: www.wcva.org.uk
Delivery Partner Grants Millennium Volunteers offers grants of up to £8,000 to local
and regional organisations who can offer volunteering opportunities for young
people to complete their award.
You are invited to
make an application if you are voluntary or statutory organisation, able to
offer or develop volunteering for young people aged 16-24 in line with the
Millennium Volunteers Programme.
The money needs to
be spent developing the volunteering opportunities you have for your young
people. It can be used to:
- Cover volunteer out of pocket
expenses
- Provide volunteer
training
- Provide recognition &
accreditation options
Youth-Led Project Grants Millennium Volunteers will accept applications for grants of
up to £8,000 from youth led projects. To be eligible for this fund your project
will need to be linked to a mentor organisation with the appropriate policies.
Non-Funded Status If you already have opportunities for young people
to complete the award and don’t require funding why not apply for non-funded
Millennium
Volunteers status?
This enables you to run the Millennium Volunteers programme within your organisation
without going through the process of applying for funding. Applications for
Non-Funded status are ongoing and will be assessed as they are
received.
How do we become a Delivery Partner? VCS is the Local
Co-ordinating Partner (LCP) for Millennium Volunteers in Cardiff and as such we
can help you to get on board Millennium Volunteers. You will need to complete a small
funding application that goes to a panel which meets 5 times a year (with the
exception of non-funded applications which are ongoing).
Contact our outreach worker to discuss Millennium
Volunteers further.
