New opportunity to access Gateway funding in Cardiff November 2010
Organisations in Cardiff are being given a new opportunity to access funding from WCVA’s Engagement Gateway project which is active across Wales.
Voluntary organisations and charities that support out-of-work people could win a contract from the project, which is funding organisations to develop the skills and confidence of disadvantaged and economically inactive people.
To become eligible for Gateway contracts of between £25,000 and £150,000, organisations can join the project’s approved supplier list by submitting a Pre Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ) to WCVA by 2pm on 24 January 2011.
Organisations whose PQQ meets the assessment criteria will be able to tender for contracts from March 2011.
Engagement Gateway and Grants Manager at WCVA Tessa White said: ‘This is an opportunity for any organisation that works with economically inactive people, particularly those that are concerned about funding and the likelihood of greater demand on their services in the near future. It’s also a chance for organisations that have previously missed the opportunity to get onto the project’s Approved Supplier List and tender for contracts next year.’
Workshops on How to Apply to Engagement Gateway are being held at Voluntary Action Cardiff (VAC) on 6th December 2010 at 9.30 and at the Community Enterprise Centre in Barry on 7th December at 2pm. To book a place on either workshop please contact Loveday Allen, Engagement Gateway Local Advisor for Cardiff (see Our Contacts page for details).
Pre qualification questionnaires and guidance notes are available to download from www.wcva.org.uk and www.sell2wales.co.uk.

DO IT FOR CARDIFF review
The event took place on the 31st March 2010 just outside Queens Arcade in Cardiff city centre and it was a success. The event which was in partnership with VCS, VAC and the Cardiff Volunteer Co-ordinators Network was aimed to promote volunteering within Cardiff Community. The energy erupted throughout the day with a African drumming workshop (Batuwe Beatz), local radio stations Rookwood sound and Glamorgan radio. There was 33 charitable organisations representatives and over 70 organisations information at the event talking to the public about the vast amount of opportunities available to them.
So why volunteer you might ask? Volunteering not only helps charitable organisations (many of which could not run without volunteers), your local community and our society as a whole it can also influence your life for the positive. Volunteering can improve your self-esteem, lead to employment, build up your CV, allows you to meet new people and enables you to 'give something back'.
Why people volunteer
"It gives me a sense of achievement, and a part of something special"
"Gaining new skills and CV points!"
"I want to give something back to society and make it a better place to live in – keep me occupied and make friends"

Did you miss it? Then have no fear because VCS are here, we run a free and friendly impartial advice and information drop-in-service Monday-Friday (10am-4pm) where you can find out more about the 400+ opportunities we currently have. If you are unable to visit our drop-in-service then click on www.volunteering-wales.net and find out what's available in your area.
